Classes will share how to preserve foods and funds

altCobb Cooperative Extension staff is offering hands-on canning classes this summer at the Extension office, 678 South Cobb Drive, Suite 200, Marietta. A jelly and jam class will be held 6-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 28. The class 6-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, will teach how to use a pressure canner for preserving low-acid vegetables, soups and meat products. Space is limited and registration is required. Extension staff will also offer a lunch and learn class on coupon clipping that can help people save hundreds of dollars per year. The class will be held noon-1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 30, at the Extension office, 678 South Cobb Drive, Suite 200, Marietta. The guest speaker, Renee Lemon, will explain what to clip from the Sunday newspaper and online coupon sites, how to organize coupons and save money. A Sunday paper will be provided and pizza served. The cost is $5 per person and due at the time of the class. Space is limited. Register by calling 770-528-4070.
 

County outdoor pools to open this weekend

altOutdoor pools are currently being cleaned and improved to open Saturday, May 25. Cobb has two outdoor pools, Powder Springs pool and Sewell Park pool. Powder Springs pool is located at 3899 Brownsville Road in Powder Springs and Sewell pool is located at 2055 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta.
Pool hours are 1-5 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday. The pools will be open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. For more information on pools, click here.
 

Government offices closed for holiday

All Cobb County Government offices will be closed Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.
 

CCT passengers can now locate buses in real-time with GoCCT

altCobb Community Transit riders now have access to real time information on the departure time of their buses at specific bus stops. Rather than relying on traditional paper schedules, passengers can be informed of departure predictions in real time. GoCCT information will be available via traditional Web browsers, simple text formats, email and SMS, or mobile text messaging. This will help empower passengers with the tools they need to optimize their time. Passengers can customize GoCCT to meet their specific needs, set departure alerts and send predictions to mobile devices.

altThe Georgia legislature recently made major changes regarding the taxation of motor vehicles. The new law goes into effect March 1, and at some point these changes will affect every motor vehicle owner in the state.
