arrowTransportation Investment Act               
The Regional Transportation Act (TIA) of 2010 signed by then-Governor Sonny Perdue calls for a 1 percent tax which will be used for transportation projects for the state. The Atlanta region consists of 10 counties: Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale. The organization that is coordinating many of the efforts for the Atlanta region is the Atlanta Regional Roundtable.

Members of the Regional Roundtable consist of the chairman of each county commission and one mayor from each county, appointed by all the mayors in that county along with an Executive Committee. The Cobb County Animal Control Unit is a great place to find that addition to your family. Adoption fees are $110 for all animals. All animals have been spayed/neutered and are current on all vaccinations. Dogs over 6 months old have been heartworm-tested and cats over 6 months have been combo-tested. About The Commissioner

Cobb County District Three Commissioner JoAnn Birrell took her oath of office with the assistance of her husband, Dave, and Superior Court Judge Joan Bloom on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011.

Birrell, a 16-year resident of the county, has previously served in numerous community organizations including as past Chair of Keep Cobb Beautiful and the Neighborhood Safety Commission.

Birrell helped the Cobb County Police raise $10,200 in 2006 to fund two new police dogs. In honor of her service, Birrell received the Cobb Public Safety Directors Award of Excellence in 2003, was a Women of Achievement Honoree in 2007 by the YWCA of Northwest Georgia and received the 2008 Keep Cobb Beautiful Environmental Leadership Award. Birrell was employed as the community relations manager for Waste Management for 18 years. JoAnn and her husband Dave are members of the Catholic Church of St. Ann in Marietta where she is a member of the Women's Guild and serves as Lay Minister. She also served on Parish Council at St. Joseph's in Marietta and was a pastoral care volunteer at Kennestone Hospital.
